Senior Specialist; Mining Research (1 Position(s))

Job Purpose:
To provide Geological, Technical, and Mining sector advisory expertise that enables the Bank to identify and evaluate viable Mining clients and Mineral projects, strengthen Credit underwriting and investment decisions through robust Technical Due Diligence, support Fit for Purpose Banking solutions for Mining businesses, and drive Sustainable growth of the Bank's Mining sector Assets, Liabilities, and overall portfolio
Main Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain mining sector financial models, market intelligence tools, and databases to support business development, portfolio management, and decision-making.
  • Conduct Technical, Financial, and Commercial analysis of Mining companies and projects to support credit appraisal, investment evaluation, and risk assessment.
  • Lead technical due diligence for Mining transactions, including the review of geological reports, resource estimates, mine plans, feasibility studies, and operational performance.
  • Conduct site visits and project inspections to validate technical information, assess project progress, and identify operational, environmental, and credit risks.
  • Prepare technical assessments, sector research, market insights, and recommendations to support business, credit, and investment decisions.
  • Develop and enhance mining sector risk assessment frameworks, underwriting methodologies, and ESG evaluation practices to strengthen portfolio quality.
  • Provide expertise Mining advisory support to business and risk teams on sector trends, opportunities, regulatory developments, and portfolio strategy.
  • Build and maintain relationships with Mining industry stakeholders, including regulators, government institutions, industry associations, consultants, and development partners.
  • Support business development by identifying bankable opportunities and providing technical expertise throughout client engagement and transaction execution.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to design and enhance Mining focused products and solutions that meet client needs and support portfolio growth.
  • Lead knowledge sharing initiatives to strengthen Mining sector expertise across business, credit, and risk teams.
  • Represent the Bank in industry forums, conferences, and stakeholder engagements to enhance market presence and strategic partnerships.
  • Ensure compliance with the Banks policies, regulatory requirements, and governance standards in all activities.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Strong understanding of resource modelling and geological reporting standards.
  • Exposure to mining feasibility studies.
  • Understanding of how Mining projects generate cash flow, key risks affecting repayment, and how banks structure financing for Mining clients.
  • Conversant with Tanzanian Mining laws, licensing procedures, regulatory requirements, and international laws and Mining standards.
  • Understanding environmental permits, land access, community relations, rehabilitation obligations, and ESG risks
  • Commodity markets and sector trends i.e. awareness of mineral prices, demand trends, gold and critical minerals markets, competitors, and investment conditions.
  • Understanding stakeholder ecosystem and the roles of regulators, Mining companies, technical consultants, regional Mining officers, Mining associations, and investors
  • Proven ability in mineral resource evaluation, geological modelling and technical due diligence in the Mining sector.
  • Good communication and presentation skills
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access/database management, data analysis tools, financial modelling applications, online research platforms, and the ability to quickly learn new systems.
  • Detail oriented with solid analytical skills and ability to synthesize data points into trends beyond the mainstream.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree majoring in Applied Science (Mining Engineering, Geology, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science).
  • Courses in Business (Finance, Accounting, Economics) have added advantages.
  • Master's degree will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 4 years' experience in Mining and critical Minerals projects, exploration, geological consulting and/ or engineering.
  • Professional training or certification in data analytics, financial modelling, risk management, banking or econometrics will be an added advantage.
  • Strong expertise in technical due diligence, resource estimation and feasibility studies
